The Dominion is not a community. It is the body that grants them. Every house under this seal — TFC, TMC, UBL, and those still in formation — is chartered here, governed by one Code, and answerable to it.
Houses come and go. A room can empty. A scene can turn. What the Dominion holds is not membership but law: the terms every house inherits the day it is chartered, so that a house one week old is already governed as well as one three years old.
I had no world as a child, and no standing in the one I was given. So I built one and set the terms. Every house under this seal exists because the thing I needed did not exist, and construction was the only option left.
My great-grandfather fought a guerrilla war against an occupying army. He was outnumbered and outsupplied for the whole of it, and surrender was available to him the entire time. He did not take it. The life I have exists because of what that refusal cost him.
I did not inherit his conditions. I inherited his standard: you do not fold because holding costs something. So the Code is applied when applying it is expensive. When the artist is popular. When he is my friend. When the room disagrees with the call. When the person being measured is me. A standard that bends for any of those was never a standard — it was a preference with paperwork.
Houses measure different things. A freestyle room and an R&B room do not judge by the same criteria, and they should not. The Code is what holds regardless of what is being measured.
Every house publishes its measure before anyone is measured by it. A criterion invented after the performance is not a criterion — it is a verdict looking for a reason.
Every call carries its reason, in writing, where the person judged can read it. A judgment with no stated basis is an opinion wearing a number.
Authority is held by office, not by favor. Each office states what it may do and what it may not. An office with no limit written down is not an office — it is a mood with a title.
Anyone with a stake in an outcome recuses from it. This binds the Source in every house he charters. Authority over a scale and standing on it are not simultaneously available.
Rank is not granted for presence, tenure, or favor. It is a claim about what a person can do, which the house puts its name behind, in writing, where it can be checked.
The Code changes with its reason published, dated, and the prior version kept readable. A standard that changes quietly was never a standard.
Settled law is published here. What is still being decided is not.
